The Svedberg Award
Presentation
The Svedberg Award is a scientific prize of about SEK 35 000
that is yearly awarded by The Swedish Society for Biochemistry and
Molecular Biology (SFBM) and The Swedish National Committee for
Molecular Biosciences. The fund was set up with means from the 9th
International Biochemistry Congress and intend to render a yearly award
for biochemical research. The fund was established by The Swedish
National Committee for Biochemistry and is managed by The Royal Swedish
Academy of Sciences. The award winner shall be a Swedish or foreign
scientist in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology under the age of 40,
working in Sweden.
Nominations should include a short presentation, curriculum vitae (CV), a list
of publications, where the five most prominent are highlighted.
This years awardee will be presented during the annual symposium in Göteborg,
22-23 september, 2008. The committee has just started the evaluation of the
nominations made.
The Svedberg Award 2007
A committee with members of
the SFBM and Swedish National Committee for Molecular
Biosciences boards have decided to award Nico Dantuma, Dept of Cell and
Molecular Biology (CMB), Karolinska Insitutet, with The Svedberg award
2007 for his significant contribution into understanding of the
mechanisms behind protein degradation and their importance for nerve
degeneration.
The award of SEK 35 000 together with the medal and diploma was
presented at the annual meeting of SFBM 25-26 September 2007 in
Stockholm.
During this meeting Nico Dantuma gave a lecture titled
Ubiquitin in stress.
