The Svedberg Award

The Svedberg Award is a scientific prize of about SEK 35 000 that is yearly awarded by The Swedish Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SFBM) and The Swedish National Committee for Molecular Biosciences. The fund was set up with means from the 9th International Biochemistry Congress and intend to render a yearly award for biochemical research. The fund was established by The Swedish National Committee for Biochemistry and is managed by The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. The award winner shall be a Swedish or foreign scientist in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology under the age of 40*, working in Sweden.

The Svedberg Award 2009

Per Hammarström receives the Svedberg Award 2009 for his
Innovative contributions to the understanding of protein misfolding at a molecular level. His research contributes to understanding diseases caused by aberrant protein folding and protein aggregation.
The award of SEK 35 000 together with the medal and diploma will be presented at the annual meeting of SFBM in November 2009 in Lund.

Call for nominations occurs every year, early spring:
Nominations should include a short presentation, curriculum vitae (CV), a list of publications, where the five most prominent are highlighted.
This years awardee will be presented during FEBS congress in Gothenburg (27 June- 2 July 2010). The awardee of The Svedberg 2009, Per Hammarström will also receive his prize at this event.
