Short introduction to protein crystallography and modeling

Lund 16-18 November 2009

Ph.D. student course in Lund in November 2009. The course is combined with participation in the SFBM annual conference, that this year has the theme “Protein Structure”.

The course is intended for the non-crystallographers who are interested in the basic principles of protein crystallization, structure determination and homology modeling. The course includes lectures by experts in the field, providing an overview of structure determination methods, basics of protein three-dimensional structure and structure-related Internet resources. Computer tutorials will be focused on three-dimensional structure visualization and homology modeling. Practical laboratory work will provide hands-on experience in setting up crystallization trials with a purified protein. In addition we will make a visit to the national laboratory MAX-lab in Lund, where we will have a guided tour of the premises and see the crystallization robots, beamlines etc. See also www.maxlab.lu.se

Location:
The course will start at 10 a.m. on 16 November. We will meet at 9:50, outside Sal A, hus 2, Kemicentrum, located at the campus of Lund University. A map is found on LU's web page, or summarised in a pdf here.
